Hyderabad, June 10 (ANI): An IT firm here today launched a broadband service claiming that it will be free from any kind of porn websites.
The company has developed software, Optima N-10, that would filter pornographic material and sites from the Internet.
Optima N-10, which can police net content on 200 Internet-enabled computers, took two-and-a-half years in the making.
It is the world's first statistical pornographical filter. No other product has ever been able to achieve such sort of process and such level of accuracy that we have achieved so far. We also announce the launching of world's first porn-filtered broadcast service, it will be completely porn-free broadcast experience, said Anil Chandra K, Manager, Drishti systems Pvt Ltd, the private firm that claims to develop the software.
Net-Optima will cost 65,000 rupees and the company is hopeful it would benefit four categories of consumers, -- educational institutes, corporate, government agencies and the Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
Pornography is banned in India but the state has no resources to monitor content that might be downloaded to Personal Computers, though ISPs have been advised to block obscene websites.
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry recently banned for a three months period each satellite TV channels AXN and Fashion TV for showing adult content other than late hours. While the Ministry has worked out time slots for airing classified programming on TV, pornographic material is outright banned.
However, policing the net has been difficult amidst a booming IT market in India.
India has nearly 40 million Internet users and its PC sales were projected to have crossed 6.5 million units for year ending March 2007. (ANI)
