Tehran, June 18 (ANI): Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has reportedly planned to retire from politics when his second term ends next year.

Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung newspaper quoted Ahmadinejad, as saying that he planned to return to academia.

He also said that he might engage in political activity at a university, but will not form any political party or group, the Independent reports.

Ahmadineijad also told the newspaper that he does not intend to follow the example of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, by seeking to return to the presidency.

According to the paper, Ahmadinejad can't run in next years' elections because of term limits.

Moreover, relations between Ahmadinejad and Iranian parliament have been getting increasingly strained for quite a while.

In March he became the first president in the country's history to be summoned to the assembly for questioning. (ANI)
