Assange could be re-arrested for breaching bail condition by seeking asylum in Ecuador
London, June 20 (ANI): Wikileaks founder Julian Assange could face re-arrest for breaching his bail conditions after seeking asylum at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London.
Assange entered the Ecuadorean embassy in Knightsbridge and requested asylum under the United Nations Human Rights Declaration.
By doing so he has breached one of his bail conditions and is now subject to arrest under the Bail Act, Metropolitan Police spokesman said.
One of the conditions was that he was supposed to be at a named bail address between 10pm and 8am, and it was 10.20pm that we were notified that he had breached that particular condition, The Telegraph quoted the spokesman, as saying.
It is believed discussions were taking place at diplomatic level to move the matter on.
Australian citizen Assange has accused his government of effectively abandoning him and ignoring the obligation to protect its citizen, who is persecuted politically.
His dramatic move came after he lost a long-running legal bid earlier this month to halt his extradition to Sweden, where he is accused of the sex attacks by two former volunteers. (ANI)
