New York, June 24 (ANI): Scores of exuberant revelers wearing costumes combining seashells and glitter gyrated through Coney Island as part of the annual Mermaid Parade on Saturday.
Around half-million people lined the sunny streets to watch - and sometimes ogle- Brooklyn's answer to 'Mardi Gras'.
Jackie the Jokeman and actress Annabella Sciorra were the king and queen of the Mermaid Parade.
I heard how fun the parade was (and) it's been totally crazy so far, the New York Daily quoted 29-year-old Josh Scheiner of the Financial District as saying.
Schiener got several admiring looks for his fish costume - but not as many as his fiance did for her outfit that simply matched a miniskirt with body paint.
The flamboyant marchers - many of whom wore their costumes on the subway to the amusement of their fellow straphangers - walked alongside the colorful floats and danced to several live bands blaring out a mix of top 40 hits and the old-time standards.
49-year-old Susan Laurita of San Francisco, had attended the parade for 20 years but decided that 2012 was finally the time to take part.
It's so funny - all of those years, I was in the crowd drunk, Laurita, who wore a pink bathing suit and a long fish tail, said.
Now, that I'm sober, I still don't even know how to describe this! she said. (ANI)
