Istanbul, June 26 (ANI): Turkey has again accused Syria of firing at another of its military planes, and warned that the incident 'would not go unpunished'.

Turkey Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc on Monday accused Syrian forces of opening fire on its search-and-rescue plane during the search on Friday for the F-4 Phantom jet after it was hit by Syrian defense forces that morning.

He said the attack halted once Turkey called Syrian officials, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Damascus had defended its account of Friday's shooting of the F-4 Phantom jet, saying it was inside Syrian airspace when it was shot down.

Turkey responded after an eight-hour cabinet meeting on the incident, issuing a point-by-point rebuttal of Syria's account and accusing Damascus of lying.

Arinc said radar records showed the downed Turkish plane was hit 13 miles from the Syrian coastline, too far from Syrian territory to be within range of such weaponry.

Arinc, however, said that Turkey would look to international law to formulate its response.

We have no intention to go into war with anyone. We will continue our path with calmness, the paper quoted him, as saying. (ANI)
