London, August 11 (ANI): Paul Gascoigne was whisked off to a clinic this week after he spiralled back into booze-fuelled lifestyle.

He drank gin for breakfast and spent his days fishing while being drunk.

The troubled former England mid- fielder has been in such a bad state that he even fell into a river while angling.

He's in a proper mess. It's been terrible to watch, the Daily star quoted a source as saying.

Quite often he will go to a local shop in Bournemouth to buy a bottle of gin late morning.

He is existing on a diet of gin, lager and vodka, the source said.

The former footie star's latest rehab admission comes after he was pictured slumped in a chair at a hotel in Dubai in June.

Fears mounted for him after he was seen with chalk smeared on his face while he made wild bets on pool matches but could barely manage to hold a cue.

The tragic football legend had been in the UAE on a speaking tour with his life-long friend Jimmy Five Bellies Gardner, 44.

But his spokesman denied that he had been drinking, insisting he stuck to soft drinks.

He has been living alone in a flat beside the beach in Boscombe, Bournemouth, recently, after seeking help for his alcoholic problem at the Providence Project clinic.

He had spent a year at the treatment centre and appeared to be in good shape when he left it.
